About this work
A narrow path recedes toward a hazy vanishing point at the center of the canvas, flanked by dense masses of frost-covered branches and undergrowth. The forms of trees and bushes are suggested rather than defined, dissolving into a pale mist that fills the lower half of the picture like fresh snow.
The palette stays almost entirely within whites, blush pinks, ochres and pale greys, applied in dry, scumbled strokes with occasional dark accents at the upper edges. Vertical drips and scratched lines run down through the central path, giving the surface a weathered, frosted texture. The overall effect is hushed and cold, evoking a winter morning seen through mist.
