About this work
Two women and a small child in a red coat walk down a wide snowy slope, arcing wooden fences curving around them on either side. Above, a row of log houses with steeply pitched, snow-laden roofs and a few lit windows crowns the rise, one chimney sending up a thread of smoke against the darkening sky.
Deep indigo and violet dominate the snow, flecked with tiny dabs of white and pink that read as sparkling frost under starlight. The warm orange glow of the windows breaks the cold palette, and the loosely dotted brushwork gives the whole scene a hushed, softly glimmering texture, quiet and unhurried.
