About this work
Barely legible architectural forms - an onion dome at upper left, angular building facades, a scattering of small square windows - emerge from an almost blank, pale ground, with faint graphite outlines sketched beneath patches of paint. The structures dissolve toward the edges of the canvas, leaving much of the surface bare.
The palette stays close to cream, white and grey, broken only by sparse strokes of yellow and black. Dry-brushed, scraped textures and thin washes create a spectral, half-erased image, giving the scene a hushed, mysterious, dreamlike quiet.
