About this work

Black diagonal lines converge from a point near the upper center and spread downward and outward, evoking a row of wooden posts or groynes receding into a hazy shore. The surrounding ground is built from soft cream, khaki and grey patches with no other distinct forms.

Ivory, ochre and charcoal tones dominate a thickly worked, palette-knife surface scored with fine scratched lines. Light is even and diffuse, and the restrained, foggy tonality gives the scene a quiet, mysterious weight.
