About this work
The composition splits into a vast, empty pale-grey expanse above and a dense, scraped black band along the bottom edge, read as ground and horizon. Thin vertical scratches rise from the dark strip like distant posts, reeds, or ruined structures, while a small patch of rust orange breaks the otherwise neutral tonality near the center.
Built from thinly scraped and dragged oil paint, the surface is worked with palette knife and incised lines rather than descriptive brushwork, leaving visible scratches, drips, and exposed ground. The stripped-down, near-monochrome palette of grey, black, and ochre gives the panoramic format a bleak, austere stillness.
