About this work
A large rose-pink, curving form sweeps across the left of the composition against a deep blue-black ground; to the right a slimmer, pale and blue-toned upright shape stands like a second figure, its outline echoed in the surrounding crumpled surface.
The support is worked into a crushed, foil-like relief so raking light catches every fold, with pigment in rose, gold, teal and near-black sitting in thick ridges rather than flat strokes. The swan is reduced to a gesture of colour and texture, cool and enigmatic in feeling.
