About this work

Below, nude maenads and horned satyr-like figures move in procession - one striking a tambourine, another crouching between two prowling tigers - while a bearded man at right lifts his arms in an ecstatic gesture.
Rendered entirely in fine cross-hatched lines, the etching builds a glowing halo behind the central figure through radiating strokes, while figures and animals are modeled in dense, textured shading.
