About this work
A monumental nude figure, muscular and flame-colored, occupies the left half, one arm cocked back gripping a round burning mass poised to hurl toward a hazy skyline of towers and ships adrift on water in the middle distance. Below, at the lower right, a knot of small dark silhouettes runs in panic across a rose-tinted ground.
Worked in etching with hand-applied washes of ochre, red and black, dense crosshatched linework builds the giant's musculature while looser scribbled strokes suggest flame and smoke; the palette burns from yellow through rust to near-black, giving the sheet a scorched, apocalyptic charge.
