About this work
The composition is built from large, irregular masses of saturated color, purple, near-black, red, green and orange, set against a cream and lavender ground and clustered across the lower two-thirds of the canvas. No figures, landscape or architecture are discernible; the forms read as pure shape and color rather than any depicted scene.
The surface is heavily built up, with thick raised paint, drips, pitting and scraped ridges giving a tactile, almost sculptural quality, especially along the bottom edge where striated bands suggest carved or combed material. Bold, saturated hues and rough handling create an intense, physical abstraction rather than any atmospheric effect.
