About this work
The view looks out across a harbor basin toward distant hills, with numerous sailboats and motor yachts anchored or moored at their berths. A wooden jetty and pontoon occupy the near foreground at left, while masts and rigging rise against the pale sky at right. A lone sailboat with its sail up crosses the calm water toward the horizon.
The palette stays cool and muted, blues, greys and soft violets in the water and sky set against warm ochre hillsides. Brushwork is loose and economical, laid down in confident strokes that capture reflected light on the water's surface. The overall mood is quiet and still, an unhurried plein-air study of a working harbor.
