About this work
In the foreground, three black gondolas with pale canvas covers are moored close together at the edge of the canal, near a row of tall wooden poles—some plain, others banded in blue and gold—rising from the green water. Behind them, a continuous row of Venetian palazzo facades in pink, ochre, and grey stretches along the canal under a hazy sky, a small dark boat visible near the far bank.
Muted greens, dusty pinks, and soft greys dominate the palette, with the building facades rendered in loosely blocked color and blurred reflections doubling their forms in the water. The overcast light flattens contrasts and softens edges, giving the view a quiet, damp, contemplative stillness under a hazy Venice sky.
