About this work
A single bridge pier stands close to the picture plane, flanked by faint arched spans receding into fog on either side. Below, dark reflective water fills the foreground, while indistinct shoreline structures show through the haze at the edges of the canvas.
The palette is limited to muted browns, mauves and greys, scratched and scraped into a rough, granular surface with visible incised lines in the sky. Light is diffuse and flat, dissolving detail into an almost abstract haze that gives the bridge a damp, weathered presence.
