About this work
A tall corked glass bottle stands on a stone ledge, its lower half filled with liquid in which loose flowers or leaves float; beside it lean a thin glass rod and a coiled snail shell. Around the group, several large moths or butterflies hover against a backdrop of scrolling ornamental lines and a decorative carved balustrade.
Etched in fine, dense linework, the composition builds tone purely through hatching and stipple, giving every surface — glass, shell, wings — the same crisp graphic texture. The ornamental swirls and insects turn a simple tabletop arrangement into a whimsical, dreamlike still life.
