About this work
A dense screen of white flowers with grey and black centers is scattered across patches of deep blue and near-black, interspersed with warm ochre and cream squares suggesting light breaking through foliage. Thin vertical white strokes cross the whole surface like grass stems or falling rain, flattening the image into a woven, pattern-like screen rather than a legible garden view.
Contrast is high throughout - stark white blossoms against near-black indigo ground - built with thick impasto dabs for the petals and scratched pale lines laid over everything.
