About this work
A compact, single-domed white stone church with thick, carved walls rises from an open green meadow, a small tree to its left and low hills fading into mist behind. Narrow arched windows and a dark recessed doorway break the pale facade beneath a rounded dome capped by a slender cross.
Soft violet-grey shadows model the stone in loose diagonal strokes, set against bright green grass rendered in broad dabs of yellow-green and olive. The muted, hazy sky and gentle light give the ancient masonry a quiet, timeless calm, the atmosphere of an overcast day in open countryside.
