About this work
A tight alley runs between whitewashed walls topped with dark, upturned tile roofs in a southern village-style architecture; a small pagoda-like turret rises above the rooftops at the far end, and the passage narrows toward a red-framed door reached by a few steps.
Light is the real subject: walls are built from soft strokes of white, lilac and ochre catching the sun, set against patches of cool blue sky and deep shadow under the eaves. Loose, blended brushwork and a high-key pastel palette give the empty street a hazy, quiet warmth.
