About this work
Numerous shells of varying shapes are arranged loosely across a sandy surface, seen from directly above in close-up. Rounded clam and scallop shells cluster at the center and lower edge, while a long spiral shell with brown banding lies diagonally across the middle of the composition. No other objects, figures, or horizon appear; the sand itself fills the entire background.
The palette stays within warm neutrals, tan, cream, dusty rose, and soft grey, with white highlighting the curved ridges of each shell. Loose, confident strokes define each form without overworking detail, and dark accents mark shadows beneath the shells to suggest weight and roundness. The close viewpoint and soft light give the still life a quiet, intimate feel.
