About this work

A cluster of dried red peppers, a garlic braid, and hanging quinces occupy the left side of a whitewashed kitchen corner, their leaves and stems curling downward. To the right, small blue-and-white ceramic pots are stacked on a wooden bracket beside a wall hung with miniature framed pictures, a windmill scene, a portrait fragment, and a round cobalt-and-white decorative plate.

Warm russet and ochre tones of the dried produce stand out against the cool white plaster and blue ceramic accents, painted with thick, textured strokes that render the withered leaves and stems in fine detail. The tight, cluttered arrangement and muted, earthy palette give the corner a homely, nostalgic feel.
