About this work
A large sinuous form built from interlocking golden-ochre coils twists and loops across the square panel, each segment textured like carved metal and studded with small dark knotwork plaques. Near the center a human hand grips a red curved vessel among the coils, while a horned, beak-like head emerges from the tangle above it.
Warm gold, ochre and rust dominate the coiling form, set against a dark blue-brown ground scratched with pale interlace lines reminiscent of Norse ornament. Thick, built-up texture and inset metal fragments give the surface a relief-like, armor-plated quality. The dense, writhing composition produces an intense, dramatic, mythic energy.
