About this work
St. George, haloed and armored in blue with a flowing red cloak, rides a white horse above a coiled black dragon, spear driven downward. Behind him a dreamlike collage of St. Petersburg rises: onion domes, a carved stone head, a mosaic cathedral facade, red lilies and a sun-faced disc.
Saturated red and blue play against gilded silver on the horse and armor, while the domes shift toward cooler blues and gold. Brushwork is tight and decorative, closer to icon painting than naturalism, flattening space into stacked planes - an ornamental fusion of Orthodox imagery and stylized cityscape.
