About this work
Rounded stones crowd the near shore of a quiet bay, their edges softened by mist, while a stand of bare, leafless trees rises at the upper left and mirrors itself faintly in the water. Beyond the rocks, small islets and distant boats dissolve into a pale, luminous haze that fills most of the sheet.
Cool blues, lilacs, and muted greens dominate a nearly monochrome palette, applied in fine pencil strokes and soft watery washes that blur edges into one another. The delicate, almost weightless handling and diffused light give the scene a dreamy, half-remembered quality, as if the shoreline were being recalled rather than observed directly.
