About this work
Wooden houses and a small church with an onion dome and bell tower crown a grass-covered mound ringed by a low fence, with a lone figure walking along a railing at the water's edge. The full moon hangs pale in a hazy sky, and the entire scene doubles below in the still, mirror-like water.
The composition is built almost entirely in dusky blue-violets and grays, with the moon and lit windows as the only warm, pale accents. Thick, textured brushwork gives the grass and sky a rough, granular surface, creating a hushed, moonlit stillness across the whole scene.
