About this work
Two pale, tower-like structures rise behind a dense screen of dark green trees, their stonework catching warm golden light at the center of the composition. Below, the same forms and colors repeat as soft reflections on the still surface of a river, with a strip of blue sky visible above the rooftops.
The paint is applied in broken, heavily textured strokes of cream, rose and ochre for the sunlit stone, set against deep greens and cool blue-greys for the foliage and water. The blurred, atmospheric handling and shimmering light dissolve architectural detail into color and reflection, giving the view a hazy, dreamlike quality.
