About this work
A reclining nude figure stretches horizontally across the canvas, body curved with knees drawn up and head resting to the left. The form is simplified into broad rounded masses of pale flesh colour, set against a loosely brushed grey-green backdrop and a band of turquoise and ochre along the lower edge.
Paint is applied thickly with a palette knife in slashing strokes of teal, magenta, yellow and white that dissolve the body's contours into near-abstraction. The high-key, unmodulated color and rough, scraped texture give the scene an energetic, unresolved feel rather than a calm studio study.
