About this work
A building facade fills most of the sheet, its walls, window openings and roofline built up from overlapping rectangular patches of color rather than precise architectural drawing. A pale greenish strip of sky is visible at upper left, while a printed rectangle of text sits in the lower right corner like a stamp or label.
Thick, dry strokes of rust, ochre, umber and cream are scraped and layered over the cardboard support, with scratched lines and smudges leaving the surface rough and weathered in appearance. The heavy, earthbound palette and coarse handling give the building a worn, timeworn presence rather than a topographic likeness.
