About this work
The canvas is built from overlapping dark masses in near-black brown and umber, cut through by thin scratched lines, angular slashes, and a few pale geometric fragments. A light grey slab-like form sits low in the composition, and a narrow band of cream and ochre breaks the darkness along the right edge, with no recognizable figures or objects.
Paint is applied in broad, dry-brushed passes and then incised with sgraffito-like lines, leaving a rough, weathered surface. The nearly monochrome brown-black palette is relieved only by streaks of pale yellow and grey, creating a heavy, brooding density that reads as pure texture and gesture rather than illustration.
