About this work
Irregular cell-like shapes tile the surface: a deep blue plane fills the upper right, rust-red cloud forms cluster over cream in the upper left, and heavily textured brown-maroon lumps resembling coral or bark dominate the lower half. Pale cream, teal and violet patches fill the remaining gaps, with black fissures marking the boundary of each zone.
The palette is earthy overall — rust, ochre and cream set against cobalt blue and black — with paint built up thickly and cracked in places, almost like weathered stone. Flatter passages of blue and cream contrast with this heavy impasto, giving the surface a dense, tactile quality. The overall impression is of an abstract, textured landscape rather than a floral study.
