About this work
Thin, scratched white grass blades fill nearly the whole canvas, rising vertically and thinning toward the top, where a dark, hazy band suggests night or deep shadow. Small white daisies and scattered blue and orange blossoms punctuate the grass at irregular intervals.
The palette pairs a near-black upper ground with ivory and bone-white grass texture, built up through heavy impasto and fine sgraffito scratches. The strong contrast between the dark top and pale field below gives the meadow a hushed, mysterious depth.
