About this work
Loosely defined round yellow forms cluster at the lower left and right of the canvas, with a paler blue cluster of similar orbs at center; a horizontal, bottle-like shape catches light on the left, and all of it emerges from a dark blue-green ground that dissolves into shadow at the edges.
Thick impasto and palette-knife marks build high-key yellows and whites that glow against near-black blues and greens; there is no clear horizon or contour, and forms read through color and light alone, giving the surface more the sensation of illumination than the depiction of any specific object, a hushed, dreamlike effect.
