About this work
A winding river curves through a lush meadow of tall grass and wildflowers, its still surface mirroring a solid wall of trees along the far bank. A small dark boat or log rests in the water at the bend, and low hills fade into haze on the horizon while reeds and undergrowth crowd the near bank in the foreground.
Cool greens and blue-greys dominate, brightened by pale, silvery reflections on the water, and the flat, diffused light suggests overcast weather or early evening. Trees and foliage are built with loose, blended strokes rather than individual leaves, giving the whole scene a soft, atmospheric unity and a still, unhurried calm.
