About this work
A small pedestrian suspension bridge crosses a narrow canal, its chains held by gilded winged-lion figures mounted on stone piers. A large tree in full summer leaf overhangs the embankment on the left, where a woman in white pauses by the railing; more figures cross the bridge itself, and ochre and cream buildings line both banks under a pale sky.
Dappled sunlight scatters bright greens and gold across the water and stonework, while the gilded griffins catch strong reflected light. Paint is applied in thick, textured strokes, blending soft blues and browns in the canal's rippled reflections for a warm, leisurely mood.
