About this work
Three groups of muscular, animal-headed demons drag and crush naked human figures across a blazing orange floor set against black rock walls. Above them, framed in a glowing oval, a winged jackal-headed deity sits enthroned with a staff and coiled serpent, presiding over the punishment below.
Hot vermillion and orange dominate the lower register, set against near-black shadow and cool blue-white flesh on the victims. Loose, urgent brushwork and distorted anatomy heighten the violence, while the flattened emblematic frame at the top recalls funerary imagery, producing an overwhelming, infernal intensity.
