About this work
Two tall, weathered towers rise at the center of the canvas, their facades built from thick ridges of cream, ochre and violet paint. Below them a dense mass of dark green and near-black foliage crowds the base, with a single warm orange glow flickering at the left edge, as if catching a last light of day.
Paint is dragged and scraped in vertical strokes with a loaded brush or knife, leaving raw ridges and craters of pigment across the surface. Lavender-grey sky, gold-toned stone and shadowy greens merge into a dreamlike blur, more a remembered impression than a topographical view, and the mood is quiet and reverie-like.
