About this work

Frost-covered branches arch over a snow-blanketed path in a park, with bare and snow-dusted trees standing at either side and a lamppost planted in the middle of the walkway. Through the branches, the tiered blue-green domes and gilded stars of a cathedral rise above the trees, its bell tower partly screened by twigs.

A cool palette of powdery blues, lilacs and pale greens dominates, warmed only by faint golden highlights on the domes and traces of pink in the snow. Soft, diffused winter light and loosely blended brushwork give the scene a hushed, dreamy stillness.
