About this work
In the upper register three standing nude women grip vine-like branches amid a grove rendered in blue and burnt orange, one reaching upward, one twisting at the hips, one covering herself with raised arms. Below, on a deep red ground, a nude male figure with small horns sprawls on his back, one leg flung up, arms thrown wide as if caught mid-fall or mid-attack.
Thick, twisting brushstrokes in cobalt, orange, and crimson build the trees and bodies with visible knife and brush marks, flattening depth into a charged, decorative pattern. The abrupt shift from cool grove to hot red ground heightens the violence, giving the scene a tense, dramatic charge tied to the hunter torn apart by his own hounds.
