About this work

The elongated proportions of the two figures stand against a swirling, deep cobalt-and-black ground, with cool light picking out pale hands and faces from the surrounding darkness. Smooth, dry brushwork and near-monochrome blue tonality lend the scene a tense, silent gravity.
