About this work

The sky above is built from streaked rose, violet and plum, applied with vertical drips that read as falling rain or fading light. Thick impasto and loaded palette-knife strokes shape the robe and water, contrasting with the more softly modeled face, giving the scene a charged, dramatic intensity.
