About this work
A nude woman lies curled on her side, one arm stretched along her body, the other tucked beneath her head as her face tilts upward. Above her, clusters of round golden marks drip down through the darkness like a rain of coins, recalling the myth of Danae and the golden shower.
Deep browns and blacks dominate, the figure modeled in warm ochre and rust streaked with red, while gold and black paint cascades and pools across the surface. Heavy, textured impasto gives the canvas a raw, brooding intensity, the mood tense and symbolic rather than serene.
