About this work
A hulking blue-grey creature with long tusks and a gaping toothed mouth rears up amid green fronds on the left. On the right a red-toned rider armed with a spear sits astride a huge long-legged bird, moving toward the confrontation under a radiating sun.
Murky blues and greens for the beast and setting play against hot red and yellow on the rider and sun. Loose ink-like contour lines overlaid with sketchy brushwork and paint drips create a raw, unfinished energy, and jagged, expressive marks charge the scene with tension.
