About this work
Two heads lean close together in a dark, undefined space, both looking down at smartphones held low in their hands; a pair of white earbud wires links them, one plugged into a phone marked with an Apple logo. Their faces are lit faintly from below by the screens' glow, features barely emerging from the surrounding blackness.
The composition is painted almost entirely in near-black blues and greens, with pale blue-white highlights tracing the earbud cords, cheekbones and screen light. The heavy, matte darkness and sparing use of light give the scene a hushed, private, faintly conspiratorial atmosphere.
