About this work
A single man is shown mid-motion, leaning forward with his fist raised and clenched near his mouth in an aggressive stance. He wears a dark vest over a white shirt, loose trousers and tall boots, with a fur hat pulled low and a sash trailing from his shoulder. His face is set in a fierce grimace, eyes narrowed toward an unseen opponent.
The figure is built almost entirely in black, white and grey, with only faint warm tones in the skin breaking the monochrome. Broad, dry-brushed strokes and smeared edges leave the trailing sash and legs loosely resolved, while the face and fist are tightly worked.
