About this work
Two men wrestle with a goat that wears a bell-hung collar and elaborately carved horns; one crouches bare-chested, forcing the animal's head down, while the second stands gripping a curved blade and the goat's muzzle. The animal kneels, straining against the restraint, its body compressed into the lower half of the composition against a bare, undefined ground.
Rendered almost entirely in grays, black and white, the sketch builds form through broad charcoal strokes and thin washes of acrylic, leaving large areas of raw canvas untouched. Anatomy is roughed in with confident, searching lines rather than finished modeling, giving the struggle a raw, unresolved energy.
