About this work
A symmetrical butterfly silhouette spreads its wings across the center, one wing reaching left and the other right, with fine lines scratched outward from the body like veins. Dark umber and black patches frame the upper corners and lower left, while warm amber shapes suggest markings in the upper right wing.
Bone white, charcoal and ochre dominate a heavily textured surface built up in thick impasto and scraped with radiating lines. The strong contrast between pale center and dark edges creates a dramatic, mysterious mood, as if a fragile shape were caught mid-flight.
