About this work
The composition looks straight down the deck of a bridge or pier, its railings, poles and diagonal cables drawn in thin pencil and pastel line converging toward a faint pale form at the vanishing point. Small dark marks along the boards and a scatter of green touches at the sides are the only interruptions in an otherwise empty walkway.
Built almost entirely in whites and warm creams, with only faint ochre, olive and slate lines for structure, the surface stays airy and understated, closer to a drawing than a painted scene. The soft, even light and spare linework give the empty passage a calm, contemplative quiet.
