About this work
Nude human figures lie and struggle across a bare tan ground, entangled with winged, insect-bodied creatures whose feathered or membranous wings and barbed tails recall locusts and scorpions. Several pairs grapple at close quarters: one figure reclines at upper left, two lock together at bottom center, another pair wrestles at right, while loose red marks and a stray creature float in the empty space around them.
Rendered in etching with sepia and ochre washes over fine ink hatching, the drawing keeps the ground nearly bare so the pale flesh and dark wing-plumage read as isolated vignettes; scattered drops of red pigment puncture the tonal calm, and the loose, agitated line work lends the scene an unsettled, swarming restlessness.
