About this work
A small mosque with a tall, pointed-capped white minaret rises against a blue sky scattered with soft clouds. Its red-tiled, gently pitched roof shelters a stone and plastered facade with an arched doorway, in front of which two dark-clad figures stand beside a low stone wall. Tall cypress and leafy trees crowd behind the building, and a dirt path leads toward it in the foreground.
Warm creams and ochres of the walls sit against cool blues and greens of sky and foliage, with the brick-red roof adding a sharp accent. Bright midday light and thick, confident impasto strokes, especially in the sky and trees, give the small building an immediate, sun-warmed presence. The overall feeling is tranquil and quietly provincial.
