About this work
Thick curtains of golden, amber and rust-colored leaves hang from an unseen tree, filling almost the entire canvas, while a dark trunk and its mirrored reflection anchor the lower center where the foliage meets a calm pond. Cooler grey-green passages at the left and top edges suggest shadowed branches and an overcast sky glimpsed through the canopy.
The palette is built from warm ochres, burnt orange and cadmium yellow set against silvery greys and lavender, applied in thick, dragged strokes and scumbled patches that read as foliage rather than describe it literally. Brushwork is loose and impasto, with drips and scraped passages giving the surface a weathered, tactile quality, producing an immersive, glowing sense of autumn abundance.
