About this work
A scalloped fountain pool with a tall central jet sits at the heart of a park avenue, flanked by four pedestaled classical statues of draped figures. Small groups of visitors stroll or sit on benches around the water, and the ground beneath the surrounding trees is thickly carpeted with fallen leaves.
Gold, ochre, and rust foliage fills the upper canvas against patches of blue sky, with dappled sunlight breaking through the canopy onto the statues and stone rim below. Thick impasto strokes give texture to the leaves and weathered marble, creating a warm, contemplative mood of a park in full autumn color.
