Approximation

A hazy landscape reduces to a few broad horizontal bands: a pale rose-tinted sky above, a soft grey-green expanse of field or marsh in the middle distance, and muted grass in the foreground. Rising from the grass, a row of unevenly spaced pale wooden posts forms a loose line, the only clearly defined shapes in an otherwise dissolved, atmospheric scene.

The palette stays close in value, blending soft greens, dusty pinks and greys into a thin, veiled fog. Paint is applied in smooth, barely differentiated washes, with the posts rendered as simple vertical strokes of lighter and darker tone. The extreme reduction of detail and soft, even light produce a still, meditative mood bordering on abstraction.
