About this work
A pale, light-struck path or waterway runs from the foreground into the distance, flanked by two dark, rounded hedgerows that meet at a soft vanishing point. Beyond them a flat, indistinct plain fades into an overcast sky, with almost no other detail to anchor the scene.
Soft-edged forms are built up in muted greys, creams and pale ochre, with no visible brushwork breaking the smooth, hazy surface. Diffuse light glows along the central path, giving the composition a quiet, dissolved atmosphere close to abstraction.
